Townhouse rooms · Lisbon
A restored 19th-century house in Príncipe Real, with a small café in the courtyard and enough blue-and-white tile to lose an afternoon looking at.
About this page. The Wren isn't real. Frogmade built it to show the kind of site we design for independent stays. The name, the address, the photographs and every detail here are invented — there is no such house and nothing to book.
The house
The Wren was built in 1878 for a fabric merchant who wanted his stock, his family and his customers all under one roof. The ground floor was a shop, the courtyard a loading yard, the upper floors home. It spent the last few decades as offices.
The 2019 restoration kept what was worth keeping — the tiled dado up the stairs, the merchant's cutting table, the courtyard's stone arch — and turned the rest into nine rooms and a café. There's no lobby to speak of. You come in through the courtyard, past the café, and someone hands you a key.
Rooms
Rates are per night with breakfast in the courtyard, and ease off between November and March. The four below are the ones people ask for by name.

From €190 / night
The top-floor room, with a slip of terrace over the rooftops and, on a clear day, the river past the chimneys.

From €165 / night
On the ground floor, with French doors that open straight onto the courtyard and the lemon tree. Coffee arrives before you're properly awake.

From €175 / night
Keeps its original tiled wall — blue and white, floor to ceiling, 1878 — which the restorers spent three weeks cleaning by hand.

From €150 / night
The merchant's old cutting room, with the long table kept as a desk and the steady north light that made it useful in the first place.
Five more rooms, from €130 — ask when you write.
The café
The courtyard café does coffee, toast and pastéis from a bakery two streets over. It's open to the street until noon — after that it's just for guests, and the courtyard goes quiet.
Breakfast for guests is included, served at whichever table has the best light that morning.

Rua do Loreto 000, Príncipe Real, 1200 Lisboa (invented address)
The house is a few doors off the Praça do Príncipe Real garden, halfway up the hill between Bairro Alto and São Bento. It's a walkable, slightly steep part of town — leave the car outside the centre.
